Dusty Van Helden, M.S.

Laboratory Manager

I grew up in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.  Post high school, I attended technical school to become an automotive mechanic. After a couple of years I decided to hang up the wrenches and joined the Wisconsin National Guard as a combat medic with the goal of going to medical school. During this time I did one tour in Iraq as a medic. After that I attended the University of Minnesota for my undergraduate (B.A. Physiology) and graduate (M.S. Pharmacology) degrees. After hearing Dr. Osborn speak at an Undergraduate Physiology Society meeting, where I asked dozens of questions about renal denervation to treat human hypertension, I started volunteering in the Osborn lab and never thought about medical school again. I strive to ensure a smooth running lab, and enjoy assisting students and staff with their projects. (Dr. Osborn adds: Dusty is glue that holds the lab together and the engine that drives the all of our research).
