Roman Tyshynsky

Graduate Student, Neuroscience

I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota for my undergraduate degree where I designed, built, and programmed a massive apparatus used for studying human sound localization and audiovisual integration. I began my PhD training in 2016 in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the U, and am now co-advised by Drs. John Osborn and Lucy Vulchanova for my thesis project. My research is focused on the neuroanatomical and physiological mapping of renal nerves in the mouse, with a particular interest in the roles of periglomerular sensory fibers. I was awarded a MnDRIVE Fellowship in Neuromodulation, which supports my studies on the function of periglomerular sensory fibers and the physiological effects of optogenetic stimulation of distinct populations of renal nerves.
